Natural Materials in Museum Collections

Feathers, leather, stone, wood, paper, plant fiber, wax, dye, textiles.....the list seems endless! Every museum collection contains substances that have either been used in their original state, or modified into composite materials. This lecture will provide an overview of the different material groups, and there will be a discussion of conservation and storage treatments for each.
Please join us! The BAACG Board meeting will be at 9:30 in the same room.
Entry will be through the “business and staff” entrance on the south side of the Academy’s building, on Middle Drive. If you go in through the front door, you will be charged full admission ($25). Parking is on the street, or in the underground garage out front.
Jean DeMouthe is senior collections manager for geology at the Academy, and teaches conservation and collections management in the graduate Museum Studies program at SFSU.
